How the Seasons Came

We read a Native American pourquoi story about why we have seasons. Wolf's son was sick because it was always Winter. Wolf and Fisher made a hole in the sky and stole the Birds of Spring, Summer and Autumn so they could have other seasons. The owners of the birds were the Thunderers. They gave chase. Wolf escaped, but Fisher was shot. His body covered the hole in the sky and he turned into stars. Wolf's son got better. The Earth has had seasons ever since.

How the Ostrich Got its Long Neck

Today we read a pourquoi story from Kenya about how the ostrich got its long neck. The crocodile had a toothache and when the ostrich put his head inside the crocodile's mouth to pull the tooth out, the crocodile remembered she had had no breakfast! The ostrich escaped before being eaten, but his neck was VERY VERY long!!!!

Inquiry Learning - Pourquoi Stories
We have been learning about pourquoi stories. They try to explain why or how things happen. They are not true.
Have you ever wondered why mosqitoes buzz in people's ears?
Have you ever wondered why mosqitoes buzz in people's ears?
We watched a video of an African pourquoi story called 'Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears'. The story explained that long ago the animals were angry with Mosquito because he told Iguana such a big lie that Iguana put sticks in his ears so he didn't have to listen! This meant Iguana couldn't hear Python, who then scared Rabbit, who then panicked Crow, who then alarmed Monkey, who then swung from a dead branch which fell on Owlet and killed it!!!! Mosquito hid and was never punished, so now he buzzes in people's ears to ask, "Is everyone still angry at meeeeee?
What do you think? We would love to read your comments.
